Reflections by Annette Roux, Retired Pastoral Associate
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
He Is Able. We serve a God who is able to do so much more than we can ever imagine. Often we may feel afraid to ask God for what we need, let alone what we think we want. But if we approach him with the highest expectations—hoping beyond what we can even imagine—we might realize how often he fulfills our requests. Sometimes our faith may feel limited simply because we’re not praying expectantly and paying attention. Jesus tells us that we don’t have because we don’t ask! We shouldn’t feel self-conscious, guilty, or greedy when we ask our Father for what we need. He delights in giving us good gifts, surpassing far beyond anything we can imagine for ourselves. But we have to allow him the opportunity by turning our hearts toward him. When we practice this habit, we discover that his mercies are truly fresh every morning.
Prayer: “God, help me to depend on you for everything I need. Surprise me with your goodness and give me what you want me to have, not just what I think I need.”
