Saint Stephen was the first Christian martyr. As told in the Acts of the Apostles, he was a foreign-born Jew who lived in Jerusalem and joined the church at an early date. He was one of the seven deacons appointed by the Apostles to care for elderly women, widows and orphans. Because of his defense of Christianity, he was condemned to be stoned to death.
The Feast of Saint Stephen is December 26.
This icon of Saint Stephen was written specifically for us by Father Damien Higgins, a priest-monk of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and internationally known iconographer.
